18 And Jesus, walking by the sea of Galilee, saw two brothers Simon called Peter and Andrew his brother, casting a net into the sea; for they were fishermen. 19: And He said unto them, Follow me and I will make you fishers of men.20 And they straightway left their nets and Followed Him.21 And going from thence, He saw other two brethren, James the son of Zebedee and John his brother in a ship with Zebedee their father mending their nets and He called them.22 And they immediately left their ship and their father and followed Him.
Lets Meditate on the above.
So I was reading Matthew Chapter 4 and I came across very strong words with almost the same meaning.
Straightway and Immediately.
We work and when we work we take pride in what we do. It helps us feed our families, takes care of our needs and pay the bills, much more. Some of us are soo in to working that we forget what life is. We get busy and we don't want to entertain others who do not work.We often look down on people while we are doing our jobs. People who are less fortunate.
Fishermen in those times were considered well to do people. I'm sure they took pride in what they did.
But all of a sudden a Man named Jesus visits their place and asks Peter and Andrew to follow him and He will make them fishers of men.
Imagine the thought process of Simon Peter and Andrew. Doing their daily work and they Straightway left their nets.
What encourages you to leave your work and do something that is right? It has be to Gods plan to select these men and when Jesus tells them to follow Him, they are filled with joy of the Lord. They do Not hesitate in leaving what was their lively hood. They thought of nothing. If they did, the Bible would say yes, they paid homage to their families, let their family know about some savings while they were away. But it wasn't like that, they Straight away left their nets and followed Him.
That is how we should be to Follow Jesus Straightway.
We shouldn't wait for the right time and check if we have the proper resources. If we follow Jesus we have to have that faith. A level of faith which can be only received from our Lord. This is a gift, for our move to follow Jesus.
Now, what's immediately?
When Jesus said to James and John to follow Him. They Immediately left their ship and followed Him.
in our life immediately implies something important. Some task that much be done before all the tasks. Thus should be our following with Jesus, immediately. We shouldn't wait for the right time. When we have the calling we should leave aside what we are doing and follow Jesus.
It clearly doesn't mean in these days to leave everything and become saints. Everyone has a different calling. If we are followers of Jesus, we always get a good advise from our soul to do the right things according to Christ.
Like not picking up stationery from office to home, passing a needy person without helping him, Looking at orphan Children but saving money in banks, instead of providing the unfortunate.
From my personal experience the more I give the more I receive. People call me crazy but that is how we should be ready to help. Immediately and not knowing what will the consequence be. Lord will always help us out. We need to have faith.
We are today's Peter, Andrew, James and John, whom Jesus has asked us to follow Him. We think we have a lot of time to complete His tasks given to us on Earth. But by thinking so we are only fooling ourselves. While we are young we have a lot of energy and can take risks. Hence we should do things that will please our Lord more when we are young and able.
Bringing back our family together, helping the community, praying alone in secret and this should be done straight away and Immediately.
