13. "You are the salt of the Earth; but if the salt has lost its flavour, wherewith shall it be salted? It is hence forth good for nothing, but to be cast out and to be trodden under the foot of men."
Amen
Lets meditate on the above
As simple as the above seems it is very strong warning.
Most of Jesus' stories/ parables were more of a kind of lesson with a moral and warning to all.
So also in this verse from the Book of Matthew.
What is salt? It is a mineral rock found on Earth.
Who are we? We are the Salt.
Properties of the Salt? To provide taste. Enhance the flavour of the food we eat. Its very commonly found.
I believe what Jesus spoke by the grace of God our Father, His examples are also very carefully given.
Salt very common for us, so are the people on Earth, in plenty. Like salt is given a property , a taste. So are we given our task and our purpose in life.
We have to be what we are meant to be. Some are gifted and some people struggle to find what their purpose is. But we have to rooted to our purpose doing what Christ has called us to do.
What happens when salt fails?
Have you ever touched salt? You know when we add salt by our hand to the food we cook. What is unwanted stays on our fingers, we rush to wash it off by putting our hand in the water. Its irritating, and may cause a bit of burning sensation.
So also is with people. But here God isn't washing us off until we are used. He carefully says, what if you lose the flavour. What if you run away from your purpose on Earth?
There are always many chances given to us while we are alive, but when the time has come and we have not fulfilled what we were supposed to, we loose our taste and we are good for nothing.
I don't say this, these are the words of Christ and the consequence of such would be just like the salt thrown away to be trodden under the feet of men
This is a very strong warning to all who intentionally miss their purpose in life. When you know you are the salt, you have to add to the taste, you have to be of use to Jesus' mission here on Earth. Because he has to select us. We don't want to be forgotten on the Judgement day, trodden under the feet of men.
